Hermann Richard Pfretzschner: Born 1856, died 1921. Bow maker. Son and pupil of Carl Richard Pfretzschner, above. Last pupil of J. B. Vuillaume in Paris 1870-1872. Established as a bow maker in Markneukirchen in 1880. Appointed to the court of Saxony 1901. Made bows for the royal court and orchestra of Dresden. Regarded as one of the best German bow makers. He assembled a large workshop, and produced models of Tourte, Voirin, and Vuillaume, sold in various grades. His own personal model he named ‘Wilhelmj’, developed in collaboration with the violinist August Wilhelmj. Other types received names of various virtuosi. The company he founded continues today.
