KAÜL, Paul Born 1875 Mirecourt, died 1951 Vésinet France. Apprenticed at Thibouville-Lamy. Worked for Silvestre and Maucotel in Paris 1900-1905. Established independently in Nantes from 1907; then briefly in Ancemis, Hyères, and Cannes before settling in Paris 1928. All classical models with varying shades of varnish. Some instruments following the ideas of Dr. Chenantais. Author of Italian Idolatry (1908), The Feud between the Ancients and Moderns (Nantes, 1928), Paul Kaul and the renaissance of violin making (Leyde, 1934).
